String Basics Solos Book 1 - Piano Accompaniment and Teacher Edition - Kjos
String Basics Solos Book 1 - Piano Accompaniment and Teacher’s Edition - Kjos
String Basics Solos Book 1starts with very easy solos (grade .5) and gradually progresses in difficulty (grade 1.5). Violin, viola, and cello solos remain in first position. Some bass solos reach high D and require basic shifting. Key signatures, note values, rhythm patterns, slurs, articulations, and road maps are consistent with those introduced in most book 1 methods.
A piano accompaniment book is also available and recorded accompaniments are easily accessed via the “Kjos Interactive Practice Studio.” No additional cost beyond the purchase of a student book. Accompaniments composed and recorded by Kirt Mosier.
Each solo was specially selected and arranged so that different performance experiences can be easily attained with success. The shorter solos are interspersed throughout the book so that students can perform them for casual occasions at home, at family or group gatherings, for orchestra recruitment presentations, for a school faculty or staff member celebrating a special occasion, and much more. The short solos are also ideal for less confident students who are giving solos a try for the first time and they work well for students learning to memorize.
The one-page solos offer myriad opportunities for student performances. There are some fun solos, including a Christmas medley and an original fiddle tune. Also featured is the popular Canon by Pachelbel. The repertoire is varied in style to appeal to students’ tastes. Many of the solos are appropriate for adjudicated festivals, recitals, and concerts. Offering the opportunity for solo playing is enriching for students and allows them to explore new musical challenges widely different from their ensemble experiences.
String Basics Solos Book 1 starts with very easy solos and gradually progresses in difficulty. Violin, viola, and cello solos remain in first position. Some bass solos reach high D and require basic shifting on the G string. Suggested fingerings are provided. Key signatures, note values, rhythm patterns, slurs, articulations, and road maps are consistent with those introduced in String Basics Book 1 and most heterogeneous classroom method books. Dynamics do go beyond what is typically seen in a first level method book so that students have the opportunity to work on expression and musicality.
